Hello, good people. Yes, we are back for season four of the Wearable Takeover Podcast. And folks, let me tell you, this season is fire. We are going to have numerous interviews with a number of our innovators and and founders, ah tech founders in the wearable tech ecosystem. And I can't wait for you to hear their stories, as well as we have a special episode from an ecosystem partner that's going to share some resources that are available. But you know what? But I gotta open up this way. We have recorded some other episodes and I had to push them back because we've had a lot of questions. World Tech Ventures, what is this event that you're hosting? What is this experience that you're hosting? um July 22nd through the 26th of 2024. Well, I want to provide some quick insight here for everyone so that you can download, you can share, and make sure that you share with folks that may be interested

and have people register before the deadline. Let me just let you know something right now. Wearable Tech Ventures has been ahead of our game for many, many years. We are celebrating five years of service under the name of Wearable Tech Ventures, although we've been doing this work for a lot more for a lot longer, but under the name of Wearable Tech Ventures. We are based in Baltimore, Maryland. We have a global presence. We develop and promote wearable technology, And one of the main initiatives that we have every summer is to develop a pipeline of talent. And we do that in a number of different ways. One is with some core programming that we host for middle school and high school students. And we traditionally have hosted that on the campus of University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
01:43.63

but we're able to expand our presence and activation this year. And then another thing that we've done in the past is we've hosted tech skills training and what we call a hackathon under the name of tech remixed. And what we like to do is to provide free tech skills training so that we eliminate any barriers to access for anyone if they have questions about certain topics such as artificial intelligence. Yes, folks, we are this is not our first year teaching artificial intelligence, by the way. We have taught people from around the world, literally, um about these topics. We've brought in some of our founders from Brazil. We've taught people from Japan. We've worked with people in Poland and other parts of Europe and on the other parts of the continent of Africa and even in across the United States. okay so
02:29.90
wearabletakeover
We provide some free tech skills training. We got folks that are teaching some introductions to like coding classes such as Python and C++. plus plus And then we have some some partners that are talking about customer discovery. And then we work with a partner such as USPTO that will help everyone understand that that process to get in the patent. how you can research and review things that have already been filed to see if there's a fit for what your idea is in the marketplace um and especially for protection. okay So we have a myriad of trainings that are available and what this serves is people that perhaps may need some help with a particular topic or folks that are just new and want some exposure right um and they want that in a safe place. That's what we do.
03:18.10
wearabletakeover
We provide the safe place and we eliminate barriers so that you can meet amazing people, meet amazing mentors from amazing companies. We're working with folks from Amazon, the Black Employee Network at Amazon. We're so grateful to onboard and work with them. We have judges and some returning judges from Deloitte. ah We have returning employees that are working with us as mentors from Under Armour. And we have a new company working with us this year that's actually teaching some new training As it relates to sensors and how that works and they're going to incorporate a challenge in California. So the Bosch company, we're so grateful to have them. And then we have some other partners that are joining us this year, such as the heal program at Dillard University. And we're going to talk about some challenges that we face every day and how perhaps we can use wearable technology to mitigate that.
04:08.97
wearabletakeover
So we're going to attack the black maternal health crisis and lactation. Um, and, and look at how we can solve that via wearable technology. So these are just some of the things that we're doing. So some of you might be saying, how do I explain this to my neighbor or how do I explain this to my kid or who can participate in? Is it only in July? Can we do it next month or can we do it in six months? Well, let me tell you this. There's a lot of work that goes into this. This is only available July 22nd through July 26th. So you need to make sure you register by July 21st. There's no cost people. You can participate from anywhere in the world. So when you go to register, there will be some prompts and some questions that will ask you as it relates to your age um and what site you may want to join us from. And if you're not quite sure, just choose virtual. Just choose virtual. Okay. We're telling folks to choose virtual. And at the end of the day,
05:03.48

Again, we're eliminating barriers to getting some training. Now, some of you might be saying, how old do I have to be? Well, in certain cases, we have listed 12 years old. In some other cases, we listed 13 years old. We're suggesting if you're pretty savvy, 12 years and up. And we have designated challenges based on your age range. We have safe spaces for youth and we have safe spaces for adults. And this is an opportunity where you can meet and greet all types of people that are engaged in the development of technology. Where else are you going to get that from the comfort of your home where you can interact with people throughout the week? And you can even participate in a challenge. And so we have five specific challenges that you can partake in. And so this is where some folks get confused. They say, well, I thought it was a hackathon. It is.
05:49.61

But there's also trainings that you can partake in throughout the day. So if you think about your menu of options that you may look at when you're looking at scheduling programs or like one of your main or one of your favorite streaming platforms or back in the day, if you have cable and you can see the schedule. I'm a programming we have programming like that and that programming will help you so that if you're participating in one of our five particular challenges you have some of the knowledge you have some of the resources so that you can ideate. Ultimately a wearable tech product that can solve that can be a solution to one of the challenges that we portray.
06:26.13
wearabletakeover
And so our five challenges, we have one specific one that's coming out of California is brand new. We'll be working in Silicon Valley with the employees at the Bosch office. There's going to be a specific sensors training and challenge. Now the caveat, this is the only challenge where you must be in person and it's only going to be for those folks that are in California. at that office. So does this mean you have to live in California to participate? No. What this means is you have to get to California, stay there for the whole week and pitch, and you have to pay your own expenses, but it's an amazing training that is free um and where you get to work with those employees directly and meet and greet with some of our ecosystem partners in California.
07:06.51
wearabletakeover
So that is one specific challenge that we have with sensors and hardware training. Now we have some other ah sites that have locations specific, but you can also participate virtually. um One of those caveats is with our partner in NC State. that's a private uh youth experience so those youth are going to patch in with us but in the future maybe we'll look into opening that up to the public but we just want to at least announce them that they're participating with us in this wearables challenge and they'll be competing directly against our youth that will be housed at the University of Maryland Baltimore County um ah during a week of training and challenges and they get direct interaction from the folks at USPTO and from the folks at
07:49.25

Amazon and Under Armour, et cetera, et cetera. So we're so excited about that, OK? And then we have the ah Black Maternal Health Challenge that ah was ideated out of the HEAL program at Dillard University. And so we have students that, and many of their graduates, they have been a part of the inaugural graduation class for the HEAL program that are going to be participating. But we're encouraging people from around the world and around the country to pay attention to that challenge and sign up for it and see if you could lend your knowledge, your expertise to overcoming some of the challenges that are faced in the Black maternal health and lactation crisis. Now, we also have a new venue and a new partnership this year. ah What we heard last year, and as we've done this, this is not our first year doing this, but we heard, hey, it's nice that you have this virtual experience, but maybe some folks want to get together and meet.
08:41.18
wearabletakeover
and you know talk and share some ideas can you give them that opportunity and so we said yes and so we're so grateful for our new partner in new york city at pier 57 they're going to have a location open for us in the evening so for anyone that is working or you know maybe finishing something during the day you can always come together and congregate with folks in the evening to share ideas work on your project and maybe even partake in the pizza party that's going to be hosted by amita b which is going to be that Tuesday of a tech remix. So there's opportunities where you can meet and greet people um in person, but of course everyone will be online and our programming will be online. So we encourage you to register. Make sure you go to wearabletechventures dot.org and if you go to the hackathon page, there are some FAQs that are there listed and it will lead you to a link where you can register for the experience. Again, you have to be 12 years of age or older
09:39.83

And it's important that you let us know where you found out about us because there are people that are promoting and sharing and we want to make sure that they know ah that their promotional efforts have worked off you know they have worked out in a great way, in a great manner. And so you can also find answers to some questions that you may have. I also want to encourage you to make sure that you're following us on Instagram and make sure that you're following us on LinkedIn, okay? um and because there's gonna be promotions where we'll be featuring some of our speakers and some of our mentors and all the amazing work that they do. Let me just tell you people, where can you go for free to get ah revolutionary training, get up-skilled and meet amazing mentors at the tip of your fingertips? We have eliminated so many barriers and so we're asking for your help to share this episode if you know someone to say, hey, I wanna know what this is or how it's gonna benefit me.
10:35.36

Do you have to have technical experience? No. Do you have to be a techie? No. Do you have to be an engineer? No. If you are someone that is ah just has a ah mindset of innovation, wants to explore it, um if you have a creative mindset or you you find that you're a problem solver, this is an opportunity for you to join an ecosystem of folks that are like-minded. don't mind learning and don't mind exploring and don't mind meeting folks so that's who it's for at the end of the day and you could determine if you want to move ah you know move forward with the tech skill that you learn throughout the week or even if you come up with the idea you could determine if you even want to explore that even further
11:20.22
wearabletakeover
We give you liberty to do that. But at the end of the day, this is an introduction, this is exposure, this is an opportunity for you to see some people that have been successful to meet amazing people that are lee they are leading amazing initiatives at their respective companies. So that's who we are. That's what we're doing. At the end of the day, I'm a huge fan of what we're doing. I hope you are too. We are global. um And at the end of the day, take advantage of this. I can't think of an opportunity that is similar like this, that is truly, truly, truly eliminating barriers like we're doing. And we're saying, hey, you're invited to the table. We know for this next realm of innovation, yes, there's a lot of talk about AI. There are some folks that have some fears about things related to that. But we show you some of those benefits of incorporating AI into excuse me into technology and how maybe you might have the answer to our problems that addresses some of the fears that people are facing. We give you that opportunity to ideate that and we teach you how to protect that idea at the same time.
12:19.66
wearabletakeover
So folks, you know what? The power is in your hands. We are not powerless. We have power. We have knowledge. We're going to share. it We're going to work together. And I hope to see you. So again, if you have additional questions or want to inquire more, go to our website wearabletechventures.org. But the most important thing is register. Make sure you register for TechRemix. And you can do that by going to wearabletechventures.org. If you're on the homepage, go to the bottom. You'll see the event registration there for TechRemix. Make sure you sign up. by July 21st, which is that Sunday. Make sure you sign up by then because we have a number of communications that are going to come out to you that show you how to integrate with the platform, integrate with the system. And we want to see you there. I have an amazing team and I hope to introduce them soon. um So make sure you're looking at our social media so they'll be introducing themselves there too. All right. So that's all I got.
13:11.39
wearabletakeover
At the end of the day, what more do you need? We're doing something revolutionary, and I hope that you help us. um you know what At the end of the day, it'll be great if we break our old record because we did produce the world's largest wearable tech hackathon a couple of years ago. It would be nice to get those numbers, but what's most important to me is that those of you that register learn a new tech skill. That's what's important. and If you want to lend your expertise and your knowledge to one of our five challenges that we're going to share. That would be amazing as well. All right, folks. So you will walk away with a new tech skill. You'll walk away with some entrepreneurial skills. You'll walk away with a new network. If you just register and if you just spend some time with us, I promise you it will work out. All right. Talk to you later. Thanks so much for joining us and make sure you stay tuned at Where I Will Take Over. We have some amazing episodes this season. Bye.
